Air and vapour barriers
The energy efficiency of the ECO2H2OUSE is greatly improved by making the internal surfaces of roofs, walls and floors air- and vapour-tight.
The air and vapour barrier is a continuous sheet material that sits within the internal lining of a structure. The design of the building frame enables the barrier to remain intact, even when wiring and plumbing are fitted.
The result is an effective barrier to convective heat losses and an efficient vapour-control element.
Cold-bridging insulation
Heat flows along the path of least resistance rather then travelling through insulated spaces; this path is referred to as a thermal bridge. Thermal bridges are often located in hard-to-reach areas of homes with little clearance (for example, close to the apex of a house).
The cold bridging insulation used in an ECO2H2OUSE supplements the main insulation with strips that provide additional insulation to targeted areas and limit the effects of cold bridging.
